45 minute drive from apartment Old capital, very nice harbour and shops, has a market each week.

At main road turn right, sign posted Fornells, at junction turn left to Mercadel, join the Ciudadela road into the centre There are lots of nice beaches just outside Ciudadela, on the west coast of the Island.

Fornells

20 minute drive from apartment Beautiful small fishing village with palm trees lining the pavements. Lots of good fish restaurants on the waterfront

Mahon

30 minute drive from apartment The capital. Follow main road to Mahon, do not turn right to the centre, follow signs straight on to the Port, pass the stepson your right which lead to the centre, about 200 yards on your left it is usually quite easy to park, otherwise a little further on the right at the side of the road. Mahon has a very large natural harbour, with Cruise ships docking on a regular basis. The town is very busy on the days when there is a Cruise ship in port. The Car Ferry to Barcelona leaves the Port most days at about 13.00 hrs. Tours of the Port in Glass Bottom Boat’s leave at 30 minute intervals in the Spring and Summer months. Mahon has lots of nice shops, the large fish and vegetable markets are well worth a visit, if only to have a browse. The Gin factory is very popular, it is situated on the harbour front and you can test not only the local gin, but also locally produced liqueurs.

Monte Toro

35 minutes drive from apartment This is the highest point on the Island, the monastery situated on the top of Monte Toro can be seen for miles. Very popular for the view of the Island and visit to the monastery, gift shops and bar/restaurant. Follow directions for Mercadel, Monte Toro is just outside Mercadel and is sign posted from there - beware of the hairpin bends.
